摘要 | This work examined the anticancer activity of Methotrexate (MTX) and Doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded niosomal decorated nanocarriers in vitro on MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. A functionalised niosomal was designed to enhance endocytosis using folic acid (FA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG). Furthermore, cellular experiments showed that to DOX, MTX, and their combination (DOX and MTX), and DOX and MTX-loaded FA-PEGylated niosomal DOX and MTX (FPNDM) increased the apoptosis ratio (AO-EB, nuclear, PI and Annexin V-FITC, and PI staining) and cell scratch assay in MDA-MB-231 cells, respectively. FPNDM significantly reduced the levels of SOD, and CAT, increasing the levels of MDA-MB-231 cells, while FPNDM improved this milieu. We describe a niosome functionalised with FA and PEG loaded with DOX and MTX to treat breast cancer in this work for the first time. The findings showed that administering DOX and MTX using FA-PEGylated niosomes has enormous promise for treating breast cancer.Graphical AbstractDrug-loaded niosomal nanoparticles for breast cancer cells |
